We’re delighted to announce the collaboration between Sud Sonico and soundscapes.live as part of the European project Street Ballads Italia — conceived by soundscapes.live to explore the relationship between storytelling, music, and place through a series of itinerant artistic residencies and commissioned texts by international writers.
After previous editions in Switzerland and Bulgaria, Street Ballads arrives in Italy this year, taking shape within the fifth edition of AVANT Festival. Italian artists Daniele Carcassi, Caterina Dufì, Tosunian, and Matilde Davoli took part in a creative residency in South Italy, developing new sound works inspired by mythic figures, legends, and local folk tales.
The collaboration wove together writing, performance, and musical experimentation — a dialogue between cultures and languages that embodies Sud Sonico’s vision of music as a space for connection, research, and shared memory. The work produced during the residency was presented in preview at a special event during AVANT Festival 2025, offering audiences a first encounter with these new street ballads born from the meeting of Salento and Swiss contemporary soundscapes and communities.
This partnership marks an important step in Sud Sonico’s growing international path, continuing to foster cultural exchange and collective projects that bridge music, solidarity, territory, and active citizenship. The sound project created during the residency will be shared publicly soon.
